A Brief History
Celestino Michael Petti was born on November 16, 1885 in Santa Croce di Magliano, Province of Campobasso, Italy. When he was just 9 years old, his father asked him to write his name and do several math problems, which he did successfully. After looking at his writing and math skills, his father said, "Celestino, no more school for you. Now you can work for me." He came to Brockton, MA in 1905 and opened his first of three markets in 1913. The original market, located on Lawrence Street, began what would become a quality local market run by family members and serving Brocktonians for generations. His first year in business was also the same year he married Santina Ferrara, June 1, 1913, and began their family. The original market moved to 216 Belmont Street in 1921. We are the fourth generation of Petti's serving you and your family for 100 years.
